While making my way through my current novel read, I came across a proverb that was unfamiliar to me: Thoughts have wings. Its origin is from a poem by American author and poet, Ella Wheeler Wilcox, "Secret Thoughts," published in 1892.

Red bird, Pink bird with spread wings, Spread your wings, Start a solo business.

One can find various meanings in this simple truth, but for me, in this moment, its meaning is derived from persistent thoughts and flighty ideas. For four years now, I've been thinking about starting a business. The idea of working from home, setting my own hours and agenda, doing work that I like, and being in control of my own destiny have been fluttering around in my brain, consistently, for, four, years! They were trapped in there. They didn't have an escape because I didn't give them one -- until recently.

While isolating and vaccinating, I had the time to be calm, to reflect and to give my thoughts an escape. Once set free, those thoughts have carried me forward and given me a plan of action. It’s an exciting feeling to move toward a goal that you hope will be life-changing. Through the fog of a pandemic, two bathroom remodels, and a period of reflection and readjustment, my thoughts have taken flight.

The idea of starting a business began for me with the desire for a career change and a simple Google search, “work-from-home opportunities.” Virtual assistance became my focus because the work fit my experience and developed for skills like organizing, attending to details, visual creation, and resourcefulness. VA work made sense, it felt comfortable, and the thoughts began to flutter about untethered.

While working a full time job and being a mom and wife, I researched and studied, trying to identify processes, workflows, and tools that would help make this idea a reality. Ultimately, I determined that a virtual assistant course was the fastest way to access a solid road map, and I invested in The Savvy System. I would recommend this course to anyone interested in becoming a virtual assistant. The program is thorough, the course creator and her staff are enthusiastic, positive, encouraging, and their support is unmatched. My thoughts were fluttering at a high speed as I worked my way through this course.

With map in-hand, I drove right in to the creative. Designing and building, copywriting and wordsmithing, sourcing and creating. Crafting the look, the message, and the service was fun and comfortable. The independent work had me in my comfort zone, now had to turn my focus inward, to my psyche. I had to get comfortable with visibility. This would be a challenge. Having the confidence to put myself out there has been my biggest hurdle. Fear, the shroud confining and concealing my thoughts.

With time and work, those thoughts in my head that would not alight, have carried me out of fear’s reach to a launching place, at least. With this introductory blog, I’m excited to announce the launch of my new business. My thoughts have escaped into the world, turned into action, and evolved into something entirely new. The self-doubt, the negative voices, the struggle to move beyond are all still dive-bombing my space, but by making the choice to takeoff, I can also choose to focus my thoughts upward. To see the possibilities, the dreams becoming reality, the purpose defined and fulfilled, and an unexpected life with more freedom to roam. And, it all began with thoughts and wings.

SECRET THOUGHTS

I hold it true that thoughts are things Endowed with bodies, breath, and wings, And that we send them forth to fill The world with good results---or ill.

That which we call our secret thought Speeds to the earth's remotest spot, And leaves its blessings or its woes Like tracks behind it as it goes.

It is God's law. Remember it In your still chamber as you sit With thoughts you would not dare have known, And yet made comrades when alone.

These thoughts have life; and they will fly And leave their impress by and by, Like some marsh breeze, whose poisoned breath Breathes into homes its fevered breath.

And after you have quite forgot Or all outgrown some vanished thought, Back to your mind to make its home, A dove or raven, it will come. Then let your secret thoughts be fair; They have a vital part and share In shaping worlds and moulding fate--- God's system is so intricate.
